All pop music sounds the same

A lot of people say that most modern music sounds the same. The songs use the same chords, similar lyrics and are about the same things. If this is true, why is pop music still the most pop-ular? If it all is the same, you would think that people would get bored of it. But even though the ‘all pop music sounds the same’ argument is used often, pop music still dominates the charts.
